Equality Act 2010
This covers a set of ‘protected characteristics’:
- age
- disability
- gender reassignment
- marriage or civil partnership
- pregnancy and maternity, race
- religion or belief
- sex and sexual orientation.
A mental health condition usually counts as disability.
This is because disability is a ‘protected characteristic’ under the act, this means disabled people have certain legal rights and protections.
