It is estimated that for every person who dies by suicide, on average about 15 people are emotionally injured because of sudden traumatic loss.

Losing someone close, by suicide, likely changes that person forever.

It is likely that the person will never be the same again.

It is also estimated that for every person who dies by suicide within a community, 135 people are significantly affected by that loss. Many more may be impacted but not significantly.

According to the Grief to Hope report 2020, the 15 people who are emotionally injured from bereavement or suicide have increased vulnerability to thinking of suicide themselves. Evidence corroborates at least one third of people directly affected by suicide loss: Those bereaved by suicide, are likely to experience suicide thoughts themselves.
