Good news! You’ve almost completed the module. The last element to complete is an assessment on the content we’ve covered today.
After successfully completing the assessment, you will attend a session where we bring the content we’ve covered today to life through discussions. We’ll also explore more in-depth tools and techniques to help people who feel suicidal.
Below are a few summary points from this module.
Summary
- Suicide can be a confronting subject and that creating safety is vital. We know that if someone thinks suicide is an option for them, having the time to listen, care and understand, without rushing to ‘fix’ them, can help to calm their mind.
- It is estimated that for every person who dies by suicide, on average about 15 people are emotionally injured because of sudden traumatic loss. Losing someone close, by suicide, likely changes that person forever. It is likely that the person will never be the same again.
- Language is important, and the particular words we use have an impact on those around us. Suicide is a very difficult subject for most people to talk about, so their way into the conversation may be tentative and indirect.
- Family and friends may struggle with the question of why the person chose to end their life. Suicide is complex, often with no single explanation for why they died.
