Why Self Care & Safety Plans?
Everyone’s mental health matters, whether someone has a diagnosed mental health condition or not, and that includes your own. Sometimes, it’s more difficult to learn about mental health or you might find you get emotional while going through mental health related learning tasks. This might be because of something that’s going on in your life at the moment, due to something that happened in the past, or just because it’s a subject that many people find emotional.
Often, difficult emotions can come up unexpectedly. This means it can be hard to predict who this will happen to, when, or if it will happen at all. This is why it’s important to have a plan even if you feel it’s unlikely you will need it. Making your own plan is also good practice for coming up with ideas for supporting others, or for future situations where you might benefit from self care.
