Opportunities

Create opportunities for your child to try new things so they can find out what they are good at, and what they enjoy. Don't only focus on their difficulties.

✅ Make time for them to build their areas of strength and to have fun. Celebrate even the small successes.

✅ Remember, what they are good at and enjoy may be what helps them build a career. A hobby or special interest doesn't have to have obvious value in terms of employment to have value to your child, though.

Support and take part in their passions, even if different to your own. Some children really thrive on public recognition, for example through competing in sports, being in a play and getting applause, or just through positive feedback received in front of others.

While public celebration can help, encourage them not just to compare themselves to other people, but to focus on comparing themselves to past versions of themselves.

So, even if something is a small improvement for them and they aren't top of the class it's still worthy of celebration.
